BCCI Working Committee to Meet in Dharamsala on June 24

The Working Committee of the Cricket Board is to meet in Dharamsala on June 24 to take stock of matters, including appointment of the Indian team's head coach.
Although BCCI sources said "it's the normal agenda" (about ratification of decisions taken by various sub committees), the all-powerful panel is expected to rubber stamp the identification of a new coach less than a fortnight before the Indian squad leaves for the West Indies.

The Board has invited applications for the head coach's post through its website and has received 57 applications, including those of former India captain Anil Kumble, former team director Ravi Shastri and current selection panel chairman Sandeep Patil.

The applications are to be gone through and a shorter list to be prepared before the BCCI will zero-in on their man for occupying the hot seat which was vacated by Zimbabwean Duncan Fletcher after India's tour of England in 2014.

Apart from the naming of the head coach, the Working Committee also has to ratify the decisions taken by the Board's Technical Committee, including holding of Ranji Trophy games in the upcoming season at neutral venues.
Quite a few voices have been heard from cricket circles against this decision and, with the Ranji Trophy coaches and captains conclave set to be held a day earlier at the same place, the Working Committee will have the benefit of details of deliberations which would have taken place there too.
Also this is, by all accounts, expected to be the last meeting of the Working Committee before the Supreme Court gives its verdict on the Justice Lodha Committee's recommendations for sweeping reforms in the Board.
As such there could be debates and discussions on this all-important issue too at the June 24 meeting.

Euro 2016: Russian Football Fans Thrown Out of France

A group of Russian football supporters are being thrown out of France because it is feared they will cause trouble at Euro 2016 matches, authorities said Tuesday.

Authorities were checking the identities of 29 supporters at a hotel near Marseille in southern France, but authorities have already decided to take some of them to a holding centre at the border, local authorities told AFP.

French police are checking to see if any of the Russians are on a list of supporters "considered a risk", said Francois-Xavier Lauch, a top local official in the Alpes-Maritimes area.

It is believed the supporters intended to travel to the northern city of Lille, where Russia play Slovakia on Wednesday.

The checks come after the English Football Association expressed concern that French authorities were not doing enough to crack down on Russian hooligans following the mass fighting between English and Russian supporters in Marseille on Saturday.

Court denies bail to alleged ISIS operatives

A Delhi court has denied bail to five suspected ISIS operatives arrested for allegedly plotting a terror strike during the Ardh Kumbh at Haridwar.According to the sources, the court denied relief to the accused persons -- Akhlakur Rehman, Mohd Osama, Mohd Mehraz, Mohd Azeemushan and Mohsin Ibrahim Sayyed -- observing that it was not a fit case for bail.

The NIA had earlier told the court that during their custodial interrogation by Delhi Police, the accused had disclosed name codes and mobile numbers of active members, recruiters, sympathizers and motivators of ISIS involved in
furtherance of activities of their ideologies using Internet-based communication, Facebook, Skype, telephones, telegram and other means, to lure youths to join the terror organisation.

The bail plea, moved by advocate M S Khan, had claimed that further custody of the accused was not required. It was alleged they were conspiring to target the Ardh Kumbh Mela at Haridwar, especially trains headed there,
besides some other strategic locations in the national capital.

All of them were found to have links with a former Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist who later went to fight for ISIS, the agency had claimed.

Bangladeshi girl seeks help for rare excess hair condition

The family of a 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl who suffers from a rare condition that causes thick hair to cover her face and body have spoken out as they seek to fund surgery to give their daughter a chance at a normal life.

Bithi Akhtar suffers from Byars-Jurkiewicz syndrome and a complication known as hypertrichosis -- dubbed "werewolf syndrome".

"She has been covered with hair since she was born. We thought it would go away as she grew up," Akhtar's mother Beauty Begum said.

As a result of the syndrome, swollen gums cover Akhtar's teeth, and her breasts make up almost half of her 38-kilo (84-pound) frame, leaving her unable to stand or attend school.

"We thought it was God's wish she was born like this. But I no longer can see my kid bearing all the pain anymore," her mother told AFP.

Only four or five people in the world are thought to have the same exact condition, the child's doctor said.

"Byars-Jurkiewicz syndrome creates facio-genital disorder and massive bilateral enlargement of breasts after puberty, which has happened to the young girl," said Fakhrul Alam, a doctor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Akhtar's family are seeking to generate awareness of her plight in a bid to raise funds for treatment, with doctors saying her life could be vastly improved with surgery.

Doctors plan to carry out a breast reduction, reduce her swollen gums and give her hormone therapy to control her body hair.

"We are truly optimistic the kid will be returning to normal life after the entire procedure," Alam said.

While the university treating Akhtar covers part of the cost of her treatment, her father, a motorbike taxi driver, said the family still cannot afford the rest.

"I had to spend more than 80,000 taka ($1,025) to buy medicines, a big chunk of which was a bank loan. And I don't have anything left for her treatment," Abdul Razzak said.

The girl's parents drew inspiration from the case of a 26-year-old Bangladeshi man who received hundreds of offers of financial help as he sought surgery to remove huge bark-like warts from one hand.

Though she presently spends most of her time in hospital, Akhtar is optimistic for the future.

"I want to go back to school," she told AFP. "When I grow up, I want to be a doctor."

India Want to Host Australia for Day-Night Test, Says Cricket Australia Chief

Melbourne: Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland has said that BCCI has approached them to play a day-night Test when the team from Down Under tours India early next year.

Sutherland's revelation comes after the BCCI has already announced that the Indian team will play its first ever day-night game against New Zealand during the home series in October-November.

"I think there is certainly some positive signals coming out of India and other parts of the world (regarding day-night Tests)," Sutherland told Big Sports Breakfast radio.

ALSO SEE Dhawan can't wait

"I think there is certainly some positive signals coming out of India and other parts of the world (regarding day-night Tests)," Sutherland told Big Sports Breakfast radio.

Indicatively they have started to talking to us about the prospect of playing a day-night Test match against Australia when Australia tours in February and March of next year. That is just a pretty strong indicator of where things are at, says Sutherland

"When you look at the big picture it is probably not surprising because day-night Test cricket is just a no-brainer really, giving more opportunities for fans to get along to the cricket and watch it on TV," said CA boss further.

The idea of Test cricket under lights has been gaining momentum ever since the first ever day-night match was played between Australia and New Zealand last November.

However, there have been concerns over the use of pink balls and South Africa star batsman AB de Villiers too has expressed apprehension about playing a day-night Test when they tour Australia next year.

Earlier in the week, Australia captain Steve Smith said that the inaugural day-night Test was "an amazing spectacle" but there were areas of improvement.

"I thought if there was two millimetres less grass (on the pitch) it would've been a four-day game instead of a three-day game," Smith said on Back Page Live.

"The ball still has got a few issues. You need to keep grass on the wicket to keep the ball together, which I don't particularly like, but we are trying to work our way though that as much as possible to make sure we keep it going," he added.

KXIP Shaun Marsh sent home for punching teammate? Glenn Maxwell rubbishes report

maxwell has come out in support of Australia and KXIP left-hander Shaun Marsh after a report claimed that the southpaw flew home not because of injury, but for punching his IPL teammate.
The report comes barely a day after allegations were levied on KXIP owner for abusing coach Sanjay Bangar. Preity denied the same in a comprehensive post on the social media, so did Bangar.
Maxwell, too, has laughed out Marsh’s reported altercation with a teammate. Johnson supported his words but there is no statement from Marsh himself.

1/2 Hahaha just saw a report that @shaunmarsh9 was sent home because of a brawl with a kxip teammate, not because of injury...

2/2 the poor bloke was in agony in the field last game he played, and then this rubbish comes out! #absolutegarbage

Not qualified enough to replace Manohar as BCCI President: Sourav Ganguly

Kolkata: Former India captain and incumbent Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly said on Friday that he does not meet the qualification criteria required for the Indian cricket board's top job.
Shashank Manohar quit as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president on Tuesday and the board is currently looking for his replacement. Manohar was on Thursday elected unopposed as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman.

Ganguly needed to attend atleast three Annual General Meetings (AGM) to be in the race for BCCI's top post. He formally took over the reins at the CAB on 15 October last year after the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya.

"I don't think I meet the qualification criteria, have only been the CAB president for 6-7 months," Ganguly told reporters at the inauguration of Bandhan Bank's Park Street branch.
Asked as to who he believes will eventually succeed Manohar, the 43-year-old said: "Difficult to say. There are a lot of experienced people who can take up the job, I am not thinking about it."
The former India skipper was recently in the news for raising a question about present India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ganguly has asked if the selectors see Dhoni as the leader till the 2019 World Cup.

But on Friday, he was seen lauding the efforts of the prolific wicket-keeper batsman. Dhoni is presently leading Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) who so far have had a disastrous season.

"He is an unbelievable captain (Dhoni). It is just a tournament (IPL). It is a new franchise and a lot of their key players have been injured. Kevin Pietersen, Mitchell Marsh all have had injuries, so it becomes difficult for a side to perform without a settled line up," Ganguly said.

Boy rescued from borewell dies on way to Pune hospital

Hopes turned into despair for the family of a four-year-old boy who was rescued today from a 200-feet borewell in Mandanwan village but died on his way to a city-based government hospital, a medical officer said.
Sunil More, son of a labourer, fell into the borewell  while playing yesterday.
The rescue operations, conducted by a team comprising  27 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, fire  brigade and police officials, lasted for over 30 hours as they extricated the boy at around 7.45 PM.
According to Deputy Commandant Sacchidanand  Gawade of  NDRF's 5th battalion, Sunil was unconscious when rescued but his pulse was on, following which he was first rushed to a private hospital in the village.
However, as his condition deteriorated he was being transferred to state-run Sassoon Hospital in Pune but died midway.
"He has been declared dead on arrival and his body  will be sent to postmortem," a Resident Medical Officer on  duty at Sassoon Hospital told PTI tonight.

Earlier, Gawde said, "We had to dig a parallel hole to the borewell. During the exercise, the rescue team had to face a daunting task as a solid rock was found underneath and it  led to the delay."
According to Gawade, after digging vertical at around 22 feet, the rescuing team dug horizontally to reach to the  boy, who was stuck at 20 feet into borewell and eventually he was pulled out.
"Even though, his lower part of the body was freed  from the horizontal tunnel, the rescue team had faced hardships while freeing his upper part of the body as his neck was trapped against a rock," he explained.
The oxygen was being pumped inside the hole to make sure that Sunil did not face any difficulty while breathing.
