Yuvraj Singh has been ruled
out of the ICC World Twenty20 2016, the International Cricket Council announced
on Wednesday (March 30). Manish Pandey, who was called in as cover for the
left-hander, has been drafted into the squad.
Yuvraj injured his ankle in
the match against Australia while batting in Mohali and had to undergo scans in
Mumbai. The left-hander looked in a lot of discomfort during his 18-ball stay
in which he score 21.
"Yuvraj missing out will have it's impact. He will
be missed. It's a minor tear in the ankle," said Ravi Shastri, the team
director, in a press conference ahead of the semifinal clash against West
Indies in Mumbai.
Pandey scored his maiden
One-Day-International (ODI) hundred in his last outing for India in Sydney in
the final ODI of the series against Australia. He has previously played two
T20Is for India against Zimbabwe in July 2015.
India can replace Yuvraj with
either Pandey or Ajinkya Rahane, who knows the conditions well at the Wankhede
Stadium having played for Mumbai. The hosts already have Bhuvneshwar Kumar
travelling with the team as the 16th member in case there are any other injurie.
